‘If I could make a wish … that one day being educated both scientifically and artistically will be the most common thing, as will interdisciplinary thinking. I long to see responsibility and sustainability as natural companions of one’s thinking and acting.’ Vera Meyer
This book tells the story of Vera Meyer, a passionate scientist and biotechnologist who conducts research on fungi for a future bio-based economy. It explores her artistic endeavours as V. meer, through which she creates surprising fungal sculptures that both reflect her scientific research and serve as a source of inspiration for it. Vera Meyer | V. meer seeks progressive solutions and new paths for our society and aims to inspire young people to forge their own paths—to transcend seemingly divisive barriers, shift perspectives, and cross boundaries to arrive at new insights and unusual, unique paths in life. In dialogue with the documentarist and photographer Martin Weinhold, texts were created that interweave her six artistic work series with references to science and her biography, shedding light on how their interdependencies led to particular research solutions or paths in her creative life. Throughout the book, Martin Weinhold invites the reader to engage with the body of work that has emerged, up to the present day, from the artist-scientist’s dreams and desires, questions and doubts, as well as her strong will.
